Funding from the Maudsley Charity supports the Grounding Project, a specialist service for individuals with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The project offers access to an urban garden, providing a safe space for participants to connect with nature, practice calming techniques, and receive professional support from clinical practitioners.
Learning to trust the environment is a key focus of the project, managed by Clinical Psychologist Dr. Gemma Eke and Horticultural and Integrative Psychotherapist Myriam Sarens. Dr. Eke explains, “Participants begin with a 12-week course, as many initially have lower tolerance for the environment.”
